First, let’s look at what’s going on at your home. We will measure your average monthly carbon emissions and determine other GHG risks. Also, depending on your grid-power supply mix, look at other impacts. Then look at water usage. What are the chemicals – for cleaning and grooming – that you bring into your home? What pharmaceuticals are in your domestic system. We don’t have to pry into your privacy, we just want you to have a place to put that issue theoretically, and know where to look for further resources. What else comes into the home? Food, consumer products,varying degrees of disposability. Let’s get a sense for this and put it into the matrix.

The building itself has materials from a wide variety of sources. Let’s assess for hazardous legacy materials. Let’s look at things that last less long that one would expect. What are the most durable things in the house? How can we reduce the demand on the industrial economy for replacement components of your home?

Knowing what is in the home is great, but what does your domestic arrangement imply? Let’s look at some of the lifestyle issues that impinge upon the global environment. What is your transportation footprint? We will leave work-commuting in the realm of that facility that you work at (we can perform an RSI there next!) and focus on pleasure or procurement travel. How much are you using bikes? What are the impediments to reducing car trips for your family?

All these dimensions are mapped into our assessment tools and templates. Based on comparisons with various averages and benchmarks, we will go to the next phase – Analysis.
